Personal Essay

Your personal essay should respond to the following prompt: In this essay, we invite you to share your personal story- the experiences, challenges, and insights that have shaped who you are today. You're welcome to reflect on your journey to parenthood, including what it's been like to navigate life as a young parent, but please focus on what feels most meaningful and authentic to you.

In your essay, please address the following:
Your Past & Your Present: What experiences or circumstances have most influenced your path as a parent and/or student? What major challenges have you faced -this could include educational, emotional, financial, or social- and how have you worked to move forward? What lessons have you learned, and how have they shaped your goals, values, or vision for the future?
Your Future: How will participating in the Generation Hope program support your goals for the future? Your essay should tell your story in your voice; we're not looking for perfection but for authenticity, reflection, and growth.

1. We recommend that your personal essay be between 350 and 700 words (1-3 pages).
2. We strongly recommend writing the personal essay in a Word document first so that you can proofread and edit it.

Recommender Information

For the Generation Hope application, one recommendation is required. Your recommendation should come from someone who knows you well, like a teacher, guidance counselor, employer, etc. We prefer that your recommendation not come from a family member. Please indicate below the person who will be providing your recommendation. Please let your recommender know that a Generation Hope staff member will email them the link to the recommendation form. Please note: This waiver is not required as a condition for admission into our program or receipt of financial support or any other services or benefits from Generation Hope. It is Generation Hope's policy that letters of recommendation be used for the application process only.

Statement of Accuracy and Participation Agreement

I hereby affirm that all of the above stated information is true and correct to the best of my knowledge. I also consent that my picture may be taken and used for any purpose deemed necessary to promote Generation Hope's Program.

I hereby understand that if chosen as a Generation Hope Scholar, according to Generation Hope Scholar policy, I must provide official evidence of enrollment/registration at the post-secondary institution of my choice before Sponsorship funds can be awarded. Documentation satisfying this requirement will be determined by Generation Hope.

If selected as a Generation Hope Scholar, I will:

Maintain a 2.5 or above GPA
Take at least 6 credits per semester
Attend a kickoff training in June and at least one In-Service Training each year
If I am a first year college student, I will attend Generation Hope's College Success Camp course, which will take place in July
Complete a monthly text check-in about my mentoring experience
Communicate with Generation Hope staff and my Mentor at designated times throughout the year
Attend the Graduation Banquet and Pathways to Promise Conference at the end of each academic year while in the program
